Turkeysong Homestead
This is stuff specifically related to Turkeysong, the 40 acre homestead basecamp here in Northern California. The name Turkeysong is basically a joke. The Northern California hippie culture tends to name properties things like River Spirit or Meadow Song etc... but what I hear in the morning is gobbling turkeys. The name still amuses me almost 10 years later :)
Turkeysong is at about 1800 feet in the coastal ranges of Northern California. We have some coastal influence and occasional fog, but it can get pretty damn hot too. The forests are mixed evergreen and deciduous hardwoods and fir. Much of the land is meadow and the rest is forested with a little brush here and there. The soil in the area that is most used for growing things is very good for around these parts. The property is sheltered from wind by ridges at the north and southwest, forming a sort of bowl facing roughly east/southeast. A reliable spring provides water. The natural resources and plant/habitat diversity provide a lot of stuff I need to pursue my various studies and practices in practical arts and technologies. It is totally beautiful and awesome.
Turkeysong is a laboratory. There are numerous long term projects that cannot be moved and more are always being planned and started. The property is not in my name, and the future is uncertain. What I do know is that I need to make a bunch of money if I want to stay here in the long run and either own it or have equal equity in the place. What I need to do that, and to keep experimenting and churning out awesomely useful content is an income that is mostly passive. I sincerely appreciate your support wherever you think it is warranted.
Here are some photos and stuff from over the years. I will also be posting photos from previous years retrospectively.
