All American Selection variety 1947 Bronze beauty lettuce delivers fine eating, good cultural traits and yes beauty!  So far it seems like one of my hardier lettuces too, withstanding both heat and cold pretty well without turning to a pile of mush, becoming tough or bitter, or bolting immediately.  It has become my main winter lettuce under cover.  It is a good market lettuce too, drawing attention with it’s color and interesting, deeply cut oak type leaves.  Hand folded origami seed pocket contains about 300 seeds.

It is very easy to save your own seed from Lettuce.  Just choose a couple of plants that look the best and are late to go to flower, isolate from other blooming lettuce by 20 or 30 feet and let them do their thing.  Usually they don't cross out with other lettuce, even if they are blooming close by, but it may depend on what pollinating insects are around. A great variety that is very popular with gardeners in Northern California.
