Plant Breeding

This page is for things related to plant breeding.  Plant breeding has gone more and more toward commercial interests and the results are not always of a type that will serve home gardeners and orchardists.  I think that we need more citizen plant breeders who are working for the common good and the needs of home gardeners.  Fortunately, it's a really fun thing to dabble in!  The idea of coming up with new, unique and improved varieties of plants is really compelling and so is getting to name them whatever you want afterwards.  I've been playing with cross breeding and selecting apples, daffodils, tree collards and potato onions, but would like to do some other stuff in the future.  The material on this page both documents my projects in plant breeding and shows how to do the stuff I'm doing.
