Apple Pollen, Various Varieties

$4.00

I collect and sell pollen for breeding apples. if you are looking for pollen to pollinate a tree just to get fruit to eat, the pollen blend is a good option. The Season Blend is bits of all the different pollen I process throught the season. Those contain more than the average packet as well.

Pollen is listed, sold and shipped as it is collected in the spring. New listings are usually every one to two days. To find out when pollen drops, subscribe to my blog http://skillcult.com/blog or join us on patreon for early access. These are varieties that I find interesting enough to consider breeding with, and most of them I have used before. I sometimes have pollen blends available!

Up to 8 packets of pollen can be sent in a regular envelope with a normal stamp, so shipping is cheap, but over 8 packets will cost around 3.00 or more. Overseas orders will be shipped in a flat envelope with an international stamp, contact me through the website contact link for how to order internationally. Anything over 8 packets shipped out of the U.S. will cost about 15.00. Also, I won’t guarantee that international shipments make it to their destination.

Pollen can be stored until next spring if kept very dry and cool, and preferably in the freezer, well sealed after thoroughly drying. It is safest to store them with a desiccant, like toasted rice, charcoal or a desiccant packet such as found in vitamin bottles. My experience indicates that pollen is very durable, but the above is probably the safest way to store it.

You can read about most of the varieties on the Apple Varieties Page. Use the drop down menu to select varieties. There are 10 to 12 blossoms worth of pollen in most packets. If used carefully, that can usually make a whole lot of pollinations, as very little pollen is needed for each flower. The Medleys have more than the other packets and one packet should make a lot of pollinations if used conservatively. Some varieties produce very little pollen. It may help to crush them gently with the back of a spoon to get more out. It takes surprisingly little though, and when you think there is not enough on the applicator, there is actually probably more than you think and more than enough.

APPLE POLLEN MEDLEYS

Pollen blends are the best idea ever for small operators and dabblers, as well as those who are not breeding but just want to pollinated a tree to get fruit. Not only can you get great diversity in one packet, but you will pollinate one apple with numerous pollen parents. Each of the 5 stigma (girl parts) can be pollinated with a different variety. Whether one stigma can take multiple pollen parents I don’t know, but at least it is not unlikely that each stigma in a single apple could be pollinated by a different parent from the blend as they contain probably 6 to 20 varieties each.
